Welcome to the CommPlus Internet Services Trouble Shooting Guide

I get disconnected every time I check me email.

In Outlook Express click on Tools then Options on the menu bar.

Click the Connections tab option.

Take the check off  for "Hangup after sending and receiving".

I have a 56k modem and I connect at speeds below 33.6kbs and/or I get disconnected frequently.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT:   Make sure you are using the most current modem driver. NOTE: V.90 is a new technology that is constantly changing, what may have worked a month ago may not work as well now. Your first source for an updated modem driver should be your computer maunufacturers support home page. If you can't find what you're looking for click here for help.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT:   Check your phone line(s). Look for loose wires, tightly stretched cables, corrosion (etc...). Remove any additional devices like telephone(s), fax machines and/or splitters, phone line surge protectors and TV systems like the Dish Network with the telephone line attached. If this improves your connect speed replace them one at a time to determine which one was causing the problem. NOTE: The rule of thumb is one device, one telephone line.

If the problem persists, you will need to contact the telephone company to have your line checked. Be aware that the current telephone company standard supports only a 9600bps connection. With good wiring between the back of your computer and telephone company you should have no problem connecting and maintaining a good connection.

If you feel that the LEC ( local exchange carrier - telephone company ) is not providing a good reliable connection or you would like the standards changed, please contact the Wisconsin Public Service Commisssion.
